San Francisco stars assemble! Replacement for Bi-Rite's former Civic Center Café, Assembly Café and Beer Garden
is now open at 52 Grove Street in Civic Center Plaza, just 0.2 miles from your doorstep at NEMA San Francisco. The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department announced it was a Valentine’s Day comeback for the Café in Civic Center Plaza, boasting SF star menu item names.
Assembly owner Best Beverage Catering manages food and beverage operations at large theatrical venues such as the Warfield Theater and Bill Graham Civic Auditorium; and for large festivals such as Coachella and Outside Lands. It also operates numerous brick-and-mortar restaurants.
“Civic Center Plaza is a vibrant urban space surrounded by cultural institutions and brimming with recreational options for people of all ages, from the creative Helen Diller playgrounds to Zumba classes. The addition of Assembly Café and Beer Garden provides the final ingredient for a perfect day in the heart of San Francisco,” said Recreation and Park General Manager Phil Ginsburg.
Assembly Café will serve food and beverages from local purveyors, including Sightglass Coffee, Panorama Baking, Anchor Steam beer and more. The menu consists of breakfast, soups, salads, burgers, sweets, drinks and Civic Rolls.
Breakfast offerings include the usual suspects like a Breakfast Civic Roll, burrito, parfait, assorted pastries, bagel and smashed avocado toast. Lunch gets more interesting with burgers named for SF movie stars like Danny Glover, Clint Eastwood, Margaret Cho, and Bruce Lee. Must pair with the hand cut Kennebec Fries.
The Civic Rolls are cleverly named after SF’s favorite local rock legends, like Carlos Santana, Sly & the Family Stone, Journey, and Jefferson Airplane. We’re looking forward to trying the Dead Kennedys with Curry chicken salad, Habanero pickles, Vinegar slaw on a grilled buttered sliced bun Served with Chips and a Pickle.
A popular selection is the Assembly Box. This 4-compartment box comes with all 4 food groups. Your choice of protein, Seasonal veggie, Seasonal fruit, bread Supports the BOGO Program. You can still get your Straus Soft serve ice creams to be offered with ‘sweet’ toppings, i.e. crumbled brownie, oreo cookie, cheesecake, carrot cake.
Hours are currently Monday-Friday, 7:30am – 5pm, and will be extended later in the spring. Take a peek at the menu and order online here.
