Exciting times in the NEMA neighborhood! Since its conception, NEMA San Francisco has remained at the forefront of Mid-Market’s stunning community transformation. Let’s give a warm welcome to our latest neighborhood amenities, which include a Comedy Club, Fine Italian Deli and HALAL MexiTerranean spot.
“San Francisco is the greatest city in the -- world,” said comedian “Dirty” Mike, kicking off a recent set at the city’s newest comedy club, The Function. “This place is like Alice in Wonderland.” The Function’s founders have been heavyweights in the SF nightlife scene for years: The venue combines the efforts of Stroy Moyd, founder of HellaFunny; Johnny Hayes, and Ludovic Racinet, who has owned Tunnel Top and Bar Fluxus.
The Function, 1414 Market Street. The Function is a vibrant addition to the city's entertainment scene, where laughter reigns supreme and every night is a celebration of comedic brilliance. Situated in the heart of Mid-Market / Hayes Valley, this dynamic black owned comedy club is poised to redefine entertainment with its electric atmosphere, top-notch talent lineup, adorned with colorful murals, upstairs lounge, cozy seating arrangements, and a stage that beckons performers to unleash their comedic prowess.
“Our partnership is perfect,” said Racinet. “And the location is perfect. It’s in the middle of town, it’s close to the freeway, and there’s this resurgence of Mid-Market.”
Beyond The Function, an outpost of the Sunset’s Red Tail bar at 992 Market Street, right next door to the “MexiTerranean” joint Habibi’s Birria. Habibi’s Birria is located in The Warfield at 998 Market Street.
“We saw this opportunity and didn’t think twice,” said Ivan Gil, co-owner of Habibi’s Birria, which launched a halal fusion restaurant four years ago in Hayward, expanded to San Leandro and had been searching for an SF landing spot for months. The restaurant is known for its hefty tacos served with a side of rich consommé.
Voted the #1 Sandwich spot in ‘The SF Sandwich & Park Power Rankings’ list by Infatuation, Limoncello at 52 Grove Street is the spot for excellent Italian sandwiches and pizzas. This family-owned Italian Market and Deli blends a passion for making delicious food with their extensive knowledge of cuisine to create authentic and classic dishes.
