October in the neighborhood and beyond is overflowing with a variety of live entertainment. Here are a few of the many must attend events that are up next this month near NEMA:

October 2-10, Fleet Week. Taking place every October in San Francisco over Italian Heritage Weekend, SFFW's air show, the parade of ships and many community events have become a significant and integral part of the city's local culture and economy.

October 3, Marco Caprai wine tour. Join an unforgettable tasting experience with Marco Caprai, the beloved winemaker from Montefalco, the land of Sagrantino at Montesacro SoMa.

October 5, Fleet Week 2023: Honor Our Fallen Concert. The Honor Our Fallen Concert features a performance by the United States Marine Corps 1st Marine Division Band.

October 7, Pilates by LINES Ballet. The LINE has partnered with neighbors at Alonzo King LINES Ballet to bring you a series of pop-up pilates workshops in the Hammett Room.

October 10, Impromptues in the Lobby. Weekly live music happy hour series in the LINE lobby from GX3 by Giulio Xavier to cruise you into the week.

October 15, SF Music Day 2023. Explore, savor, and experience Bay Area live music at SF Music Day, a free music festival in San Francisco presented by InterMusic SF.

October 20, SF Open Studios Exhibition Opening Weekend. A whole weekend dedicated to experiencing the magic of 300+ locally made artworks by our Premier SF Open Studios Artists.

October 21, San Francisco Trolley Dances. Walking tours of site-specific dance performances from Downtown SF to the Exploratorium to Fisherman’s Wharf along the F-line.

October 22, A Taste of Chinatown. Explore the vibrant and colorful Chinatown neighborhood while capturing Instagram-worthy shots of its unique culture and architecture.

October 27, Japantown Halloween Carnival. Enjoy the annual children's Halloween carnival in Japantown with games, crafts, costume contest and parade, and more.

October 28, Thrill-O-Ween. Kickoff the fall season with a spooktacular experience designed for you to enjoy an afternoon of safe Halloween fun.

Thru October, Union Square in Bloom Summer Music Series. Union Square Plaza will come alive with the sounds of talented local artists, celebrating the rich musical heritage of this iconic city.

Thru December 9, SF Conservatory of Music’s Fall Series. Featuring a robust calendar of music, from performances by guitar virtuoso Sérgio Assad to baroque ensembles, to Chamber Music Tuesdays and more — the fall calendar is full of beautiful music to hear.

Thru February 2024, Takashi Murakami. The Asian Art Museum notes, this is the "first solo exhibition in San Francisco by Takashi Murakami," a renowned artist with recognizable works that appear throughout popular culture and fashion.

Thru March 2024, Middle Ground. From the Exploratorium, Middle Ground returns to Civic Center. Find it at the Larkin Street steps of the Main Branch of the SF Public Library.

Thru May 2024, SF JAZZ 2023-2024 Season. Featuring over 300 concerts, the season is a "continued celebration of the organization's 40th anniversary and 11th at the SFJAZZ Center.

Thru May 2024, SF Symphony 2023-2024 Season. The SF Symphony opens with a robust calendar of performances.

Thru June 2024, SF Opera 2023-2024 Season. The San Francisco Opera's 2023-2024 season has opened, see what's coming up.

Thru summer 2024, Orpheum Theater 2023-2024 Season from BroadwaySF. The 2023-2024 season brings the return of award-winning productions like The Lion King (November 22-December 30, 2023) and Wicked (August 2024), along with other great shows like MJ The Musical (January 30-February 25, 2024) and Mrs. Doubtfire (July 2-28, 2024).

Sunday, Wednesday & Friday. Zumba instructor Matt Ziegler leads classes in Civic Center Plaza (weather permitting) on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays with SF Rec & Parks Zumba in the Parks. The class is for all ages and skill levels; meet on the paved portion of the plaza adjacent to City Hall. Free, drop-in. See the schedule here.
