October in the neighborhood and beyond is packed with a variety of live entertainment. Here are a few of the can’t-miss events that are up next this month near NEMA.

October 1-13, WICKED. The Broadway sensation looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle. The Orpheum Theater is only 0.2 miles from NEMA San Francisco.

October 1-13, SF Open Studios. SF Open Studios allows the public to visit over 400 local artists in their personal studios. 

October 2-6, SF Art Tasting 2024. Enjoy an evening of stimulating discussion at ArtSpan's SF Open Studios Exhibition. You'll have time to browse the gallery, featuring 300+ works of art by local artists, and get a taste of what's on view during SF Open Studios.

October 3, Downtown First Thursdays. Grab your friends and head downtown for DFT on Market Street & 2nd Street. Get ready for more live music, food, drag, DJs, free all-ages activities to fill up the night.

October 4, Sunset Disco Dandiya. Shor Media takes Sunset Disco Dandiya in 2024, the most premium Dandiya event in SF to the prestigious & classy San Francisco City Hall.

October 4-6, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. Don't miss this annual free bluegrass festival. For three days, several stages in Golden Gate Park will feature the biggest names in the genre. 

October 7-14, Fleet Week. Join the crowds that come out to the waterfront every year for SF's Fleet Week to be wowed by the Blue Angels roaring in formation just overhead. 

October 10-26, Litquake. This San Francisco literary festival showcases hundreds of the Bay Area’s finest writers for a week of readings, discussions, films, cross-media happenings and more.

October 17, San Francisco Fall Show. View gorgeous art, antiques, furniture, sculpture, and jewelry in a captivating setting. 

October 19, Sukkot Pop-Up with JCCSF. Join JCCSF at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market to celebrate and learn about Sukkot, a Jewish festival honoring the fall harvest. Experience the beauty of a community sukkah by connecting, creating and eating together in this special space.

October 19, San Francisco Vintage Market – Fulton Plaza. Third Saturday of the Month. Featuring 30+ vendors focusing on antique and vintage furniture, art, objects for the home, and vintage clothing.

October 20, SF Music Day 2024. Experience 100+ artists performing in the Herbst Theatre, the Green Room, and the Taube Atrium Theater.

October 20, Foodwise Sunday Supper. Enjoy an abundant walkaround reception and elegant seated four-course dinner at SF’s iconic Ferry Building, showcasing the freshest fall produce.

October 24, Hallyu! Dream Party. A night of fabulous festivities celebrating South Korean pop culture and the first major museum exhibition dedicated to its transcendent rise at the Asian Art Museum.

October 25-26, Breakaway Music Festival. The festival began in Columbus, OH, in 2013 and quickly grew into a two-day, multiple-stage festival bringing exceptional names like Chance The Rapper and Kendrick Lamar to the Midwest. Coming to the Bay Area at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. 

October 25, Huesitos y Recuerditos: Día de Los Muertos Drag Show. Curated and hosted by Per Sia, Huesitos y Recuerditos: Día de Los Muertos Drag Show features new and returning drag artists.

October 25-26, Breakaway Music Festival. Marshmello, Alok, Anabel Englund and many more at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, only 0.2 miles from NEMA San Francisco. 

October 26, Layover Rooftop Happy Hour. Join Charmaine’s social playground for Layover, a Rooftop Happy Hour featuring craft cocktails, light bites, and DJ jams by Motel Club on the 4th Sunday of each month.

Thru November 9, Californian Wildflowers. Visit the Jonathan Carver Art Gallery for a Solo Presentation portrait series by South African photographer, Pieter Hugo. 

Pre-Theater Dinner. Before heading to the theater, stop off at Charmaine’s to experience an evening for the senses. Enjoy a refreshed dinner menu, craft cocktails and sweeping views of the city. Available on Show Nights Only.

Free Museum Days. Did you know that many of the city's top museums offer free admission days at least once a month? It's the perfect opportunity to explore iconic exhibits and immerse yourself in the vibrant arts scene. From the de Young Museum to the Asian Art Museum, there are plenty of opportunities to explore art, history, and science in the NEMA San Francisco neighborhood and beyond.

Late Night Specials at Rise Over Run. Enjoy drink specials and light snacks: 9 to 10pm Tuesday and Wednesday and 10 to 11pm Thursday to Saturday.

Thurs-Sun, Sky Rink at SVN West. This summer take a roll around the Sky Rink at SVN West featuring DJs, food and fun. This temporary seasonal rink is open on Saturdays and Sundays before 4pm; and 21+ Thursdays and Fridays, and Saturdays and Sundays after 4pm.

Mon-Thurs | Charmaine’s 7@7 Happy Hour. Meet on the rooftop for an exclusive Sundown Happy Hour featuring 7 unique sips, 7 tempting bites and the golden sky at 7pm.

Civic Center Soundtrack Concert Series, Tuesdays & Fridays, noon-3pm; Thursdays 2-5pm. The free concert series by Illuminate, takes place at Fulton Plaza, between San Francisco Main Library and the Asian Art Museum. The full lineup can be found here.

Heart of the City Farmers Market. Sundays and Wednesdays. A well-loved Farmers Market happening in Civic Center since 1981.
